Rooney joins Vauxhall!

From the archive, first published Tuesday 13th Sep 2005.

A Scott, a Spaniard and a Rooney have come to Vauxhall's aid, as they try to get back to winning ways in the Nationwide Conference North.

Scott Willis has joined the Motormen from fellow Nationwide club Stalybridge Celtic. Both he, and Spanish defender Alvaro Parra-Dioni, made their starting debuts for Owen Brown's men in a stunning 4-4 draw against Leigh RMI at Rivacre Park on Saturday.

Alvaro is a close friend of Everton's Spanish import, Arteta, and clearly looks an excellent capture, while Thomas Rooney, cousin of Manchester United's Wayne, is also set to sign, once his international clearance has arrived, given the former Tranmere player was last on the books of League of Wales champions TNS.

During the Leigh blockbuster, Lee Woodyatt and Paul Addo both registered their first senior goals for the club, after Peter Cumiskey had volleyed home his fourth of the season, and before Robbie Lawton struck an absolute screamer from 25 yards in the dying minutes to grab a vital point for the Motormen to end a run of five straight defeats.

This Saturday, the Motormen face a really tough task at leaders Northwich Victoria, who have yet to taste defeat since their unfortunate relegation from the Conference National at the end of last season, though striker Leighton McGivern will be available again.
